Willow Tree Starry Night Nativity Sculpted Hand-Painted Triptych

"...and heaven and nature sing" is the sentiment written on the Enclosure Card accompanying this piece.

This 8.5"h x 8"w x 2"d resin box triptych features hinged 1/4"d doors that open to a width of 16"w. The exterior of the box is decorated with applied gold leaf, as well as gold carvings and blue etchings. The box can be hung on a wall using two keyhole hangers or displayed freestanding, and it weighs 5.5 lbs.

Inside the box, a bas-relief carving depicts scenes from the Nativity Story, decorated with blue ombré and gold-leaf dots. On the inside left door, a carved shepherd plays an instrument, while the inside right door features gold icons representing the offering of the Magi.

The figures in bas-relief are contained within an 8" box that opens as a triptych, revealing a starry night scene surrounding an intimate scene. The deep gradated blues, sparkly gold, and symbolic imagery are a reference to historical objects of art. According to the artist, Susan Lordi, "I embellished the surface with gold dots—symbolizing light, energy, hope, inner strength. Gold connotes preciousness and enduring value, and I wanted this to be a special piece, that would be kept for a long time."

Susan Lordi, an artist based in Kansas City, MO, hand carves the original of each Willow Tree piece in her studio. This particular piece is cast from Susan's original carving and then painted by hand.

The Willow Tree triptych box is ready to display on a shelf, table, or mantel. To clean, simply dust it with a soft brush or cloth.
